PIA Boeing 747-240B Combi (AP-BAT) seen sitting outside Ispahani wide-body aircraft maintenance hangar at Karachi Airport in early 1980s. In late 1970s, PIA spent more than 17 million US Dollars for construction of on a new hangar capable of housing two wide-bodied aircraft. It was the largest construction project undertaken by the airline at that time. Netherlands Airport Consultants (NACO) and Toyo Menka of Japan assisted with the design and supply of pre-fabricated steel structure. The construction of hangar and related workshop was completed and commissioned in 1980. The hangar has been named after Mirza Ahmad Ispahani who was the longest serving chairman of PIA from 1955 to 1962
